February Daily Musings

January Daily Musings

Time to get caught up in the bloggersphere, one month at a time :)

Oh Rylee (2.5 years)

We thought we were awesome parents...and then we had Rylee.

She's the kid that never sleeps through the night, the one that drives you bonkers, but yet makes you laugh when you know you shouldn't. The girl that sings "shake your booty" as she tears her diaper off and runs through the house. The girls that "owns" the playground, attempting to do the monkey bars by herself, then yells, "No, don't help me!" as you go in for the rescue. The girl that sings "Old MacDonald had a farm" during the sacred, quiet moments in church. The girl that is constantly pulling her sister's hair/shirt/anything she get them all riled up.

When it's not ever safe to turn your back, even if you're only grabbing a roll of paper towels!!

Amidst all her wrongdoings, lately I see so much more. A girl that wakes up and whispers, "I LOVE YOU MOMMY" then shoves a baby doll bottle in my mouth, a girl who's whit and grit can conquer the world. A girl who is finally, FINALLY says, "I'm sorry" and give big hugs w/o being prompted, a girl that asks regularly "will you snuggle me?!", a girl who loves her baby dolls with such dedication and care, girl who's smile and laugh radiates pure JOY!!!

Most would agree she should probably spend most her day in time out. She drives me to my crazy place, where I want to yell and scream. So often, we hold our kids to a standard we can't obtain ourselves. We insist they be patient and kind, but then we loose our cool on the first outburst of opposition (or am I the only one??!!). But as I meet her with grace and patiently teach, rather than anger/harsh discipline, her LIGHT shines a little brighter, and my LOVE a little deeper!
